A simple question, but what does the red flag denotation mean on a material? I've been searching everywhere in the documentation but must be overlooking it (since I don't know how to describe it).

    Thanks

doesn't that mean that materials or maps are visible in viewport?

I don't think so. I have a v-ray material on my seamless cyc that stays the same no matter if I hide or freeze the entire element in the scene.

Actually rivoli is right, it is an indicator that viewport preview for this material is active. If you select the material node and press the "show shaded Material in Viewport" button in Slate the red flag should disappear. However, not every Material supports this feature like for example VrayBlendMtl. A simple VrayMtl on the other hand should work fine, did you check if maybe your Display mode is set to Object Color?

You're right. I see what you're talking about now. It's weird though that the "Show shaded Material in Viewport" button is greyed out when I'm in the Slate mode. Works fine in the Compact mode. Is that a bug?

hmm..., it shouldn't be greyed out in Slate, unless you have select more then one node or a Multi/Sub-Object.
