  • Antialias problem

    Hi,

I´m new to VRAY and after lots of testing I have not got a good result with rendering. The problem is the lack of antialiasing.

I have relatively simple scene (no GI). I have set the Adaptive DMC on and tested with different adjustments but the antialiasing seems to not improve at all.

Here is some samples of my scene in 200% magnification :

It looks like there is no anti-aliasing at all.

    Here are my specs :

    Adaptive DMC
    AA Filter : Area 2.0

Min subdivs 1 Clr treshold 0,005
    Max subdivs 8

Adaptive Amount 0,85 Min samples 8
Noise treshold 0,01 Global subdivs multiplier 20,0

    Can someone help me, please?

try min 2 and max 16
most things will look strange at 200% zoom so its hard to say whats going on here

try adding some elements to see where the problem lies.
    try these elements:
    reflection
    specular
    lighting
    samplerate
    totallighting

you can also try the "universal method" but without GI
basically its min 1 max 100

if you have glossy reflections, you'll need a lot more samples depending on your DMC settings

try an override material for your entire scene with RGB of 150,150,150 and see what that looks like

      Hi,

      Thanks for the comments.

I tried most of your tips but nothing had any effect.

Here´s a picture with overriding material applied :

If you look at the sticks on the ground, there seems to be no anti-aliasing at all. Or the machines at the back...

It´s really weird. I try fixed, adaptive DMC, different levels, etc. and nothing seems to have any effect on the picture.

can you post a stripped version of your scene? 3/16 should most definitely solve it.

My guess there's something weird with your lights. Looks like the noise is stronger closer to the lights. Check their subdivs.... Looking at that ridge at the top of the picture, the AA looks fine.
Are you using sub pixel mapping?

              Here is a crazy idea.
Change your renderer to scanline and then back to vray and try rendering with all the default settings and see what you get

If you can post a part of the scene, it will be very helpful.

                Best regards,

What kind of GI settings do you use ?
This looks a bit like progressive path tracing with to less samples.

You can also send your scene to vray@chaosgroup.com
Have you changed Global Subdivision Multiplier? for me it look like it is set to value below 1 - probably 0.5 or lower.
