  • Reflection interpolation and IM cache

    Hi,

the new VfR allow to use reflection interpolation and I found, that the reflection IM pass will be calculated also if the IM is read from a cache file. Is it right, is the reflection IM pass not saved to the IM cache?

    Hi,
Yes, reflection/refraction interpolations are not saved into Irradiance map, they are calculated independently.

      Ah, thank you.

I ask me, could it be not possible to implement a reflection/refraction interpolation that is based on direct raytracing, based on undersampled resolution? Like rendering at half resolution and upscale the image. The blurry areas wouldn't show that they are rendered at lower resolution. At this way the user wouldn't need to fine adjust the interpolation. In the best case the undersampling could direct controlled by the blur amount. Is it not general a waste of time to calculate blurry reflection/refractions at original resolution?
