  • shade maps and animations

Been experimenting with shade maps (which are awesome btw) but was wondering, for a walkthrough animation, would there be any problem using it with GI precalculated using 'Multiframe incremental' or does it have to be used exclusively with the 'Animation (prepass)' mode?

    Thanks for your help

There shouldn't be any problem to use multiframe incremental maps.

On that note though, the shade map is like some kind of acceleration structure for how rays bounce around the scene so if you've got animated geometry there's less benefit than from the equivalent of a "use camera path" suitable scene? Or is it still worthwhile looking at a shademap on a per frame basis?

        Thanks for the replies.

Completed my animation using 'Multiframe incremental' and shade maps and works fine.

Vlado, when you said in another thread that shade maps for animations needed to be calculated for every frame, i think i just automatically thought GI needed to be calculated every frame as well.
