  • Vray Pattern - Further development ?

I am wondering since quite a while if there will be anything happening with VrayPattern.

It's not done by Chaosgroup, I know, but it could be such a great tool! Since the developers do not answer any requests in the forums, I am asking here (since it is directly related to Vray as well) ...

There is lot of space for improvement and further features. Still the development has come to a total standstill since years which I find quite sad.

Does anybody know why? It really looks like the whole thing is just DEAD.

Is there any alternative to VrayPattern, that is more promising for the future?

    Regards, Peter, xoio

Technology behind VrayPattern is very very efficient way to distribute large number of objects.
I think something similar should be incorporated into Vray (and VrayRT maybe).
It would be a great addition...

Hi, I think the guy behind vray pattern is called Karba, and it's not really developped by Icube (the guys selling it).
      http://karba.eol3d.com/index.php?sec...in=vraypattern
I've seen him on other forums and he's quite active there, basically, I think we're talking about just one guy and
by the looks of it he's super mega busy.
Perhaps try a bit harder, maybe try contacting him direct somehow?
Anyway, I love vray pattern, i think it's a fantastic tool. what improvements did you have in mind?

We are working on something similar for V-Ray 3.0. On a side note, I believe Karba is now working for Refractive Software on integrating Octane in 3ds Max; I don't know what interest he still has in developing for V-Ray.

          Best regards,

Yes, Karba is now working for Refractive Software. They stoppend all VRayPlugin development I remember he wanted to add a Library tool in Multiscatter, but all the plugins are dead. Also the very promising VraySpeedLight

This is where the whole "plugins written for plugins" problem starts to get evident, apart from the whole version marathon that comes with it. Stuff like Karba's meshlight improvements should have been bought up by Chaos or at least implemented identically as soon as Karba ditched Vray development. (Barring any legal issues).

That's actually a big problem. Buying stuff that's already been written by someone is complicated; when we looked into it at one point, it turned out that the basic copyright cannot be "sold", it always remains with the original author and they can always sue if they consider that their IP is not used as they want. Contracting someone to write something new from scratch is ok, but of course not nearly as useful.

We did attempt to do this once, but eventually it did not happen and we felt it would be safer to develop the functionality ourselves.

                    Best regards,
                    Vlado

Wow, that Karba chaps plugins look superb. Especially that algorithm driven tree generator; what I wouldn't give for that!

I can assure you that VRayPattern is still under development as all our other plugins
saying more, VRayPattern for Maya is also under development

we do have more very skilled programmers here at iCube R&D Group now

we agree that some posts on our forum sometimes gets unnoticed,
but our email support deals with every single problem promptly

we always take feature requests into consideration, unfortunately its not always possible to implement due to technical limitations or stability issues,
we use our products heavily in our own production so we are interested ourselves in having efficient and reliable tools.

                              Hi Alexey
Well, you are implementing updates for new Vray and Max-Releases.

But further development ... I just can't see it: VrayPattern has in its functionality not changed AT ALL since its release. All the posts in your own forum concerning VrayPattern just remain unanswered. As did emails. Hmm.

Do not get me wrong, here. I wouldn't even bother if I wouldn't like your stuff quite a bit!

                              Best regards from Berlin,

                              Peter, xoio
