  • Displacement cause extrem slow down for LC pass and a solution

    Hi,

as I worked on this project I run in the problem, that the LC pass extreme slow down, if displacement was enabled. I suppose so the rendering would need a week or a month. But I found, if I calculated the LC pass without displacement (global displacement amount at 0) and used the cached LC for the final calculation (IM + final pass) with displacement, than the rendering was quick done. So, maybe this problem can be solved at the core code, but an easy solution would be to add an option at the displacement options like " don't use for secondary GI"

    Regards,
    Micha

The only times I had problems with displacement taking a long time during LC calculation is when it's running out of memory or when the displacement settings are way too high for what's needed. Most times it's rather easy to fix.

However I think your idea is good, and I'd like to have that option too.

      Hi,

Will forward this feature request to the developers for consideration.
      Thanks for the feedback Micha!

Such a scene renders a lot faster when using instanced objects (grass-patches).
I went that way and never would use displacement for vegetation (except for particular hedges).

          btw. nice Pic!
