  • RAW rendering

As a photographer I always shoot in RAW format, then edit the exposures (saved as .CR2 files) with Adobe RAW editor

Here, much like Lightroom I can quickly adjust the exposure, WB, Fill light, contrast, reduce noise, add ND filters and adjust specific areas of the image with the Adjustment Brush.

Can I edit a Vray RAW image to this extent with the Adobe RAW editor as I do with photographs?

http://www.peterguthrie.net/blog/201...st-production/ - Peter on here is using lightroom. I don't know if you can use 32 bit floating point (raw equivalent) tiff files from Vray in Lightroom or whether it only supports raw and DNG files but it shouldn't be a problem to render to EXR from vray, then open that in photoshop and save to DNG for use in lightroom.

Yes I'd read Peter's guide and tried to do the same with the Adobe RAW editor, without success. I don't have Lightroom to try...

As the Adobe raw editor comes with PS it would be nice if we could use it, as opposed to opting for more software..

Might just be a case of doing the exr to DNG conversion in photoshop and trying to open that in adobe raw then?

you can now open 32bit tiffs in Lightroom, which gives massive scope for editing, its like RAW files on steroids. (you can do the same with Magic Bullet Photolooks in pshop - its awesome too)

I havent used adobe camera RAW for photoshop in years, so cant really comment on that

I've just had a go at this, and can't seem to convert an EXR, PSD or even a tiff file. So it appears to be no good, unless I'm doing something wrong?

Interesting, I've never heard of the Magic Bullet - do you find you use that a lot Peter?

Adobe camera raw editor is very similar to Lightroom (in my very limited experience of LR anyway) but as I say you get it with PS so it reduces the need for more software. That said I do want to give LR more of a try for my photographic work. Would be nice to try and experiment with what I have though

Lightroom is brilliant, and also an absolute steal at about £100

Whats wrong with 32bit tiff? Lightroom reads V-Ray renders as kelvin whitebalance etc...it even has better recovery than a RAW because it is 32bit.

Hell yeaaah!!!! Thanks for that pointer about opening 32bit tiff in lightroom. I've felt like I've been stuck in PS with only being able to open exr there. I do the hdr toning to bring it to 16 bit, but having Lightroom adjustments to do the toning is far preferable.
