Is there any reason HDR files inside VrayHDRI material are rotated 90 degrees?

  • Is there any reason HDR files inside VrayHDRI material are rotated 90 degrees?

    Hey guys,

Just something I noticed the other day whilst doing some tests with HDR lighting. When a HDR file is loaded into VrayHDRI map, the map appears to be rotated 90 degrees to when the same HDR map is loaded into just a regular bitmap map. Both are set to spherical mapping, with everything else left to default.

I was just wondering if there is a specific reason for this, or perhaps I'm doing something wrong?

    Cheers,

    Dean

    Hi,

V-Ray uses different mapping for HDRI files and such a result is expected.
It is possible to achieve the same view (as in regular one) if you change the Mapping type to "3ds Max standard" and set the coordinates to "Spherical Environment."

There is no specific reason for this; the formula that is used by VRayHDRI is slightly different. When I noticed that is different from the 3ds Max, it was already too late to change it as it had gone into the official builds
