  • Linux for stability

    Hello,
I'm lucky that i have about 90 cores (180 threads) as a personnal small renderfarm... all on Windows, with 3dsmax2013 and Vray running on it...

I'm glad with that except too often i get some stability issues : on PC is faulty, not responding, crashed etc...

I would like to turn into linux to get more boot speed and stability...
But 3dsmax is not a linux software...

So i wonder if Vray Standalone could help me, is it ?
And if yes, can somebody explain me the way to get reed of windows : how do i start distributed rendering or queued (a la backburner), is there any free tool ?
sometimes i use VraySpawner for DR (shader testing, lights... etc...),
when final render with several sequences, i put all that in backburner and let it render all night long...

    Some help would be apreciated...

    Thanks.
    ps : excuse my english...
    dream it !
    model it !
    love it !

Yes, you can use V-Ray Standalone to render in Linux environment but you should keep in mind that Backburner doesn't support V-Ray standalone.
On the other hand V-Ray Standalone is a console application and it doesn't need any render manager. It has its own command line switches and can be used as a render manager itself

Also please note that only V-Ray RT vrscene exports is fully functional. There are still some things that are not supported (like hair) but we are working on that.
