    shame to max programmer who have done this!
    It's not a Max problem, strictly speaking This is one of the standard representations for floating-point numbers in computers. There are other representations as well (for example, double-precision 64-bit numbers) but operations with them are slower, not to mention the extra memory they take...

      i think this is a reason for 64 bit computing?!

      beside the adressed memory range.

        It dosn't take 64bit processing for double precision. Even Autocad is based on double precision accuracy. Kinetix programmers were probably just making it easier on them and faster for us for what MAX was primarily used for at the time (entertainment).

        Just curious, does anyone know if 3D Studio Viz is single or double?

          VIZ is the same core as MAX without sub-object animation, particles systems, and a few other fancy bells and whistles. in short ... its single precision.

            i mean. no register magic to store a 64 bit number etc.
