  • light select and vray fog

Is it possible to have light selects elements work with vray fog.
I know its possible to plus the light select effect on objects in the scene with vrayatomsphere but as we are rendering fog in a separate pass it would be good to separate the lights effect on the fog itself using light selects.

Unfortunately this is not possible at the moment - LightSelect element could only extract contribution of light on geometry.
Of course you can create a separate pass for each light - it will take a little bit extra render time, but you will have what you want.

It's not impossible to implement this; will make a note to look into it.

Vray fog, similar to vray lens effects would be amazing to have as a render pass only option. Admittedly you guys are doing it in the accurate way in that fog affects light and shadow but as usual the quick, dirty hack brigade would love the option of having it not in the main render if possible too

Can you not just subtract it from the RGB?

At the moment we are looking at doing separate RGB lighting passes so that we can separate 3 lights at a time but we have a lot of lights (a submarine underwater) so it will increase the render time a lot to have to do separate renders. A light select option to affect atmospherics would be very useful.
