  • Home insulation material?

I am trying to create Home insulation ona project im working on. Ive gotten an image from istock and created a displacement map . My material is a vray blend with the texture map ina falloff in the diffuse and a falloff in the reflective slot, but im still not having any luck. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I attached an image of what i have now.

good start, maybe try to use some textures in diffuse and enlarge the scale?
Here is an example (if you are going for the pink stuff vs. rockwool?)

Looks pretty tricky. Perhaps you could play around with a falloff map for diffuse or even SSS. I think your displacement map isn't right though...

Admittedly, it is nothing great (that "hairy" spun fiberglass is a tough look to get without using a fur generator), but I'd be happy to upload the file if you cared to see it.

              Thanks Pixelcon

              Sure Brandon, here it is...

Note that the material is diffuse, displacement, and bump based and that the geometry has a noise modifier on it. Also please note the blur amounts I put on the bump and displacement map which help the softness of the texture.

              I hope it helps,

              -Alan

                  Thank you so much Alan.

So you used the same texture for the bump and displace without desaturating it? Very interesting.

Yes, generally speaking. Bump too. "Intensity" maps ignore the color element of these maps.

Small amounts of blur on the displacement and bump maps softened the effect and I got "volume" so-to-speak from a combination of the displacement and noise on the geometry. Just a lot of balancing and test rendering. You may very well have to tweak some parameters with your lighting model.

Like I said, not great, but not bad for a quick non-fur study and especially if it is not too large in the scene!

                      You are most welcome,

                      -Alan
