  • Animated sun

Trying to remember the technique that we used to speed up static shots with animated sun. Something like making the material black and then using one of the light passes and overlay it on the base render.

But I'm forgetting what the base layer is and the light pass is!. ie at the moment its Hdri and vray sun I've animated both of these. Anyone jog my memory!

I'm not quite sure which exact approach do you have in mind.
But generally (for exterior scenes) you can render 1 frame with GI (save a GI render element for it) and render the animation without GI. This way you will have a GI Render element for 1 frame and the animation with direct illumination only.
Then you can add this GI render element on top of the animation in composting and animate its Hue, Saturation and Brightness for the whole sequence.
Please not that this is a fake workaround and it will not mimic 100% a real GI effect, but it might work well in your case.
    Best regards,

Hi Yes, Though it was something like that. I've tried with vray sun and sky turning off the sun and rendering a frame, then turning all the texutre off putting on an override material turning the sun back on and rendering then using the rawlighting pass to overlay ontop, but that doesn't seem to give the right result either! Think it needs a bit of testing again!
