  • VRay Licence Server and Windows Server 2012

Hi Vlado (and anyone else that knows),

In my office we are currently switching from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2012 for our domain controller. Previously we had the VRay dongles and Wibu software on the 2003 server and everything worked great. Does anyone know if the dongles and server software can be installed on Windows Server 2012? I'm not that fussed about wether or not it's 'officially supported', I just want to know if it works and won't crash our lovely new server

    Thanks in advance

We don't have Windows Server 2012 in the office, so I don't really know. I'm guessing that it will work fine, since Microsoft is generally good at keeping compatibility between versions, but I can't say for sure. It would be best to email our support guys at vray@chaosgroup.com - they can probably arrange a copy of Windows Server 2012 to try out.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Ok, I had to go around the block a few times, but I did get it to work in the end.

First of all you will need to get updated dongle drivers here, as the ones included in the VRay installer don't work on Server 2012:
      http://www.wibu.com/en/downloads-user-software.html
Then you install the VRay licence server and Wibu dongle drivers.
Then you have to manually add an exception rule in the Server 2012 firewall to allow vrlservice.exe to have network access
Then you need to make sure that both the Wibu service and vrlservice are running and you're good to go.

Vlado, my recommendation would be to include the latest dongle drivers in the VRay installer to slightly simplify this

      Best regards

Thanks for the update! Yes, we'll update the drivers at some point.

        Best regards,
        Vlado
