  • Dichoric Glass

    Hello everyone,
I am trying to re-create the the Dichroic glass material in this image -
    http://www.diglassworld.com/sell-lam...ss-120931.html

I have tried with various gradient maps/ramps/blends but I can't get anything to work!

    Any pointers would be appreciated!

hmmm, good question. I'll have a think about this one.

I know that a few of the unbiased render engines have a "thin film interference" option on their materials that can simulate this effect, and the effect of oil on the surface of water, etc. Perhaps it could be introduced to VRay.

Until then I'd (just off the top of my head) go with a blend material that changes the reflection/refraction colour at different viewing angles. Haven't given any thought as to how i'd set it up yet though! I'm sure it's do-able.

Sometimes ago I did a material like your.

As suggested you should try using gradient maps as the reflection map...
Unfortunately I can't upload you the material due to the missing compatibility with the version of the berconmap I used.

I attach a render to show you what I achieved.

As you can see the reflection color changes in a random way driven by the noise map I used.

I hope it could be helpful for you...

Maybe you could try the fake dispersion technique to achieve this. But instead you use it for refraction you use it in reflection?

Hi Bardo, That looks close to what I need. Any chance you can show me the material set up?

Chris, I really would to help you but I have "missing maps" due to the mismatched version of the bercon maps.

I could save the glass box and send you and if you have the same bercon maps you should be ok... shall it work??

Here my glass box... I hope it works...
