  • brighter hilites

    in this image i want to be able to get the hilites on the individual tiles to pop more. so on the surfaces that have a tight curve, i want to get the hilight to go to almost white.


    the material has a glossiness of .4 with 6 subds. i have played around with the anisotropy settings as well. but, i just can't seem to get the hilite sharp enough.

    you could just add a falloff map to the diffuse channel

      that is giving me better hilites, but now i can't get the depth of color as i had in the first image.

          What do you use in your reflection map channel? I think there's the key to your highlights. If you render true highlights, you need a map that reflects in your object. Also 0.4 looks pretty blurry for sharp highlights. make your mat more reflective also and it will highlight more.

            i found that using the falloff map in the diffuse channel gave me the best results and certainly rendered the quickest. i needed to render this for a 9000pixel (45") wide presentation board (for an art/architecture exhibit). so, doing it with real reflections meant days of rendering time. here's what i got:
