  • volume light shadows

i'm trying to get a volume light passing through a window to cast shadows, but i'm not having much luck.
at the moment i get a shadow on the ground, but the volume light remains constant.

i've got the ScatterVL plugin effect added to the light and i'm using Vray shadow...

anyone know how to make this work?

    thanks.

yeah, but i have to exclude the glass from shadow casting and i've got 2 different types of glass pane in the window...

is there a way not to exclude the glass?

      caustics or something?

          trying it now.

i think the problem was not enough volume on my volume light

with vray shadow i don't get any shadow casting from the volume light, just constant fog...

do you think it's because my other materials (wall, windowframe) aren't Vray materials?

                    nope.

no attenuation, no decay, transparent shadows...

                    *edit*

i replaced the wall + frame with vraymats.
                    no joy.

do you think i need attenuation turned on to get volume shadows?

i don't see what difference it would make...

                      sorry if i'm being thick...

nah, it didn't work with attenuation.

i've settled with excluding the glass panes for now as it was just a test to get used to the features of Vray.

i think it looks ok for the time being.

                          thanks for the help natty.

                              hi there,

volume light shadows are only visible when using shadow maps ! unfortunately.
I´d like to know if it could be possible somehow to combine this feature
with raytraced shadows.. like the vray shadow.
