  • Baking textures

Has anyone had much experience baking textures in 3dsmax and Vray.

Ive set up a simple scence in max and Vrays bake worked great. The minute I try to use it on a 3d model created by a cad package such as ArchiCAD Bake dosent seemd to work for well at all.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Ok so I was a bit sarcastic I apologize.

But the fact is that archicad meshes are horrible when they come in, it is very possible that that is an issue.

          no problem.

yeah I agree but there's always a comprimise when using cad software - any cad software. ArchiCAD excells at modelling "Architecture" and is very flexible when it comes to modifying elements. I have to say that ArchiCAD is the fastest modelling package I have ever used for modelling Architectural type models. Its been built for modelling buildings and excells at it. Sure when you need to start modelling complex geometry such as industrial design models or furniture models I'd the first to admit that ArchiCAD would be the worse thing to use. We use Max when we need complex elements to be built because max excells at this. we use what works best in a given situation.

you should check out some of the comps multi cad ran in the past years. ArchiCAD won hands down nearly everytime. Autocad + Architectural Desktop and Microstation + Triforma alway at the bottom of the heap. Because these comps were designed to test the softwares modification abilities, not just building the model.

we have modelled some very large models in ArchiCAD (20million polys+) and vray has been working extremely well. the intergration between max and archicad work seamlessly.

but baking on the textures is obviously another story.

          Thanks anyway
