  • Falloff of vray mesh coffer light

We regularly need to put 'coffer' lights in ceilings. Typically, we sweep a square along a path and turn this into a mesh light.

More often than not, our client comes back with some sort of mark up like this:-

We usually just run a bit of post over these areas to increase the lighting effect of the coffer.

I wondered if there was another way of doing this? Increasing the strength of the mesh light doesn't really make much difference. I tried ticking on 'no decay' but that doesn't seem to make much difference either.
    Kind Regards,

You could try using a Vray distance texture map to blend between regular ceiling material and self-illuminated material. I've used this method before to do back-lit signage as it gave me much better results.

That's some imaginative use of the distance texture

Please post back here with your results. Sounds like a nifty solution.

I usually do a mapped based solution as well.
It helps eliminate mark ups like those

Here is the way I do coffered ceilings.
It is nothing special but it always does the trick

Excuse the poor render. Very 2min setup!

thats quite off-topic here, but i tried your scene (btw a nice trick!) and you have DR on localhost running?

you run the spawner with numa option local?

                    Mario,
I don't understand what you are asking. Could you clarify?

                      hi Jackson,

i was curious, because you have in distributed rendering "127.0.0.1"

but i see, i have the same setting here too in different file... must be since some update and i missed. nevermind
