    Hello guys,

Have you tried 3DS Max Print Size Wizard - it has a lot of presets which could help a lot.

The print guys aren't clueless though - they will be printing at 300 dpi. They want you to give them a 300 dpi file. What's so difficult about that? It's not their job to figure out the distance it'll be viewed from and render to a suitable resolution - it's their job to print your 300dpi file that you send them.
If they get a 300dpi file from you to print and it looks shit, it's not their fault. If you convince them to print a lower res image and it looks shit, it's their fault. they are covering their ass.

It's not 'secretly' resizing - every raster image made for print gets resized.
