      Are you using scanline?
Did you switch the current renderer to Vray?

      Just a thought...

i am using a demo version could that be the reason. At i believe it should work to an extent.

i also know better than to use scanline.

Demo should work fine, but maybe its expired? Download the latest version and check the expiration date.

If that's ok, post some of your settings (render rollout and materials). Goncalo's post could be the easiest fix though

Is your background set to black?

I think it's you that should be more specific. There are so many controls so everything can go wrong, we don't know at all what you already did so we cannot somve your problem. Also you don't react to our suggestions.

-Did you switch the current renderer to Vray?
-Demo should work fine, but maybe its expired? Download the latest version and check the expiration date.
-do you try to use GI or are you just using normal lights and stuff?

Also, we don't know how well you are in rendering in general. Did you ever render an image with normal scanline in max? It's best to understand max before using the vray plugin.

Post some images with settings that might help a lot, just take a screenshot of the whole render settings dialog (all rollouts)

i also have darkness problem with vray, one of my first exterior scenes and i have no idea what should i do to have more light under the roof and get overall better image, scene with one direct light m=2.0; environment override m=3.0; exponential color maping; dark m=2.0
the question is what does these multipliers respond for?

first of all....this is not the kinda darkness problem the guy who started the thread was having......second of all.....get rid of the exponential color or adjust it a bit!!! it darkens everything !!!.....it's like takin a photo indoor and aim the camera at the windows...in order to c the outside...u ll need to adjust the exposure...when u do c the outside...the inside will look dark....same kinda stuff happenin when u apply color mappings......................third of all.....i think the scene is fine the way it is.... u can use photons to get more light into it.....but i think it's a waste of time since there's not much stuff for the photons to bounce.......fourthly...improve ur aa....fifthly...the settings u said have nothing to do with getting better gi.....

btw...i think its dark cuz the mtls are not reflective at all....mtls also play a part......give the wood just a tiny tiny bit of glossy reflection....and remove the glass when u do the irmap calculation....

I forgot to add the vraylight - I just click wherever and that's it - I didnt give it a u, v, w value - the perspective window would show like everything was ok - but on render it would be very dark.

it is most definately an expired demo problem. I remember having that problem when I was demo-ing.
