background filtering

  • background filtering

    very basic one this.. id like to use the video aa filter to soften my render to match the background plate. however i cant see how to stop the filter from also blurring the plate. obviously i should just comp it after, but id like to know if its possible to do it straight in max/vray.. in the max preferences for rendering, there is an option to filter the environment, but its off by default anyway, and doesnt help.

    Render without the background plate and comp it in post?

      Unfortunately there is no way to stop Background filtering with Vray - when any filter is selected it will be applied to the whole image.

        Can't you just drag the background image into the material editor and set filtering to none in bitmap settings?

          The antialiasing filter will still be applied to it.
