  • VRayEdgesTex only on outer edges of plane

    Hi

    Like the title says

I want to do an VRayedgestex only on the OUTER edges of a plane, not the inner segments.

How can I achieve this? Maybe something other than edgestex?
Its a plane with turbosmooth on, but its affecting the inner edges of the plane also
    Kind Regards,
    Morne

Yeah it's almost like the vray toon shader except as a map - maybe if there was some kind of angle threshold control on the edges tex?

There's not much in edges tex, on or off for hidden edges and then the size.

      Will attempt something with vraytoon.

Otherwise I'll have to manually select with an edit poly on top all the outer edges and create a shape from this and then give it a thickness, but that is going to be a major PAIN!
      Kind Regards,
      Morne

VRaytoon doesnt give me any shading on the edge, only same colour throughout. No lighting variation or shadow so that option also not gonna work

Seems will have to trace the thing...
        Kind Regards,

          Arrrg

I can be such a moron sometimes,
No need to trace anything, just select the border instead of each edge

But still. would be nice to have an option in edgestex to ONLY work on the border
          (or a vraybordertex)
          Kind Regards,
          Morne

Exactly - like the current vray edges tex but with controls like vray toon so you can choose to only have edges drawn if they're on faces that meet at a 90 degree angle for example.

              try this great little plugin;

              http://www.phoenixgrafik.de/?MeshArmyKnife

it's got a nifty function which automatically selects the border edges and sets them to 'visible' whilst setting all other edges to 'invisible'. In the modifier go to subobject>edge>BorderVis. Saves loads of time when dealing with this issue.

Edit mesh - edge selection - select all - autoedge.
Depending on mesh shape and for this should do what you want. Edgetex set to skip hidden edges.

Very nice tweak - I didn't know that it is possible to convert edges to hidden-edges

One of the only good features of editable mesh, apart from the lower memory footprint. A godsend for models imported from other "unclean" applications.
Makes one wonder why the autoedge feature was not added to editable poly.
