  • cmdjob issues with Backburner 2014

Cmdjob.exe is not working for us in 2014. We have given BB all the same freedom in our firewall as we have for years.

We are moving from Max 2012, where BB2008 works fine, to Max 2014 that doesn't seem to play well with 2008.We have kept BB2008 because changes in cmdjob.exe in 2009 and onward did not work for us. Honestly I can't remember if our issues back then are the same as what I'm seeing now.

I've dropped obsolete options such as -jobNameAdjust and -leaveInQueue. I don't see any syntax related errors.

No matter which executable I try to run with cmdjob, it returns the same:
Cannot create job: The system cannot find the file specified.
I've confirmed the file name/location etc.

We have this same command string working now with BB2008 and hundreds of servers.

    This is my command string:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\Backburner\cmdjob.exe" -jobName jonah-VRayDR2012 -manager ourManagerName -priority 50 -numTasks 1 -taskName 1 -timeout 6000 -servers ourServerNames -workpath "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\3ds Max Design 2014" vrayspawner2013.exe

Does anyone else have issues or insights to share?

    Thanks very much,

    Hello jonahhawk

Have you started at least one Back-burner job from Max 2014 User Interface ? A colleague of mine tried this setup and he confirmed that everything worked fine in our environment.
Also could you please let us know how did you installed both BackBurner versions ? By default newer BB installation overrides the old one and this could cause some troubles including the one you are facing now.

Thanks for the response. I have submitted jobs via the UI. As for installation, we have tried several methods. First we only installed Max2014, keeping BB2008. Second, I installed BB2014, letting it update/overwrite BB2008 settings etc. Third, I uninstalled Max2014 and BB2014 and then installed both in one step. I am wondering if my problem may be related to queue control issues: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/Autodesk-3ds-Max-3ds-Max-Design/Backburner-Monitor-Queue-Control-Weirdness/td-p/4365200

Could you please try to first un-install all BB installations - then make a clean and default BB 2014 installation and try to run your command string.
Does it work or not ?
