  • No occlusion pass?.

Hi! I like the effect of the occlusion in my render, but would like to have it as a separate pass to adjust it in the comp later, but I do not see an occlusion element on the render elements for Vray... How you do this on Vray? Plans to add it to next version?

    Thanks.

You can export ExtraTex element and but Vray dirt map there.
Just remember to tweak it right, to get enough radius, subdivs etc.

I tried this and render time got 3 times slower!!!! But if I turn ON the Occlusion on the render, time does not change..... is this normal???

          Nothing is for free!

Increased render time is to be expected since you are basically doing two different renders in one pass. If render time is limited, rendering the AO pass separately will help speed things up.

I see, I tried separately, and it only takes 30 seconds per frame, as an extra element, it add like 4.5 minutes to the render. Weird... Same sampling and GI off for the dirt texture..

Oh yeah - in the extra tex elements, there's a tick box called "consider for anti aliasing". Turn this off so that your AO pass doesn't get factored into your main renders anti aliasing calculations. Also if you're using high AA, as vlado mentioned in another thread about lights that Adding AA takes away from light samples, it's the same with AO / vray dirt. Try turning up your samples by factors of your max AA - if you're using 1 / 8 on aa, try adding multiples of 8 to your vray dirt - try around 48 as a starter and see what speed / quality you get.

i usually try and not put it as an element, it takes way longer, if you using scene stated i would just submit it separately
