  • vray2sided weak effect.

ive always used 2sided and never had this issue. its a week of issues. i have a butterfly flying between the camera and the sun. obviously a bit of 2 sided action is needed for the wings.

ive made the sun size large so i have a nice big glowing disc behind the butterfly. the wings overlap so they should be casting shadows on each other partially.

thing is at default settings (and without gi) the butterfly renders as a silhouette. if i turn the translucency up to pure white, i can make out a very faint translucent effect, but nowhere near strong enough.... ive never had this issue before. ive got a vray sun and sky at default multipliers, and vray exposure control set to photographic. and ive tried with my textured wing material and also a flat grey default colour. same result.

    any suggestions?

-ive just tried putting a vraycolour in the translucency slot and giving it a white with multiplier of 5

now i get a decent amount of translucency, but if i tun on gi i get "attack of the thermonuclear butterflies "

i swapped to a standard direct light, and no exposure control, now its working. is it a bug?

on a related note, is it not possible to increase the "bounce depth" of the 2sided effect? the areas where one wing overlaps the other is completely black.. id imagine youd still get some light coming through the second wing. do i have to go full fat translucency and a thickness to the wings for this?

      Hi,

Would it be possible to post/send an example scene to see your setup?
