  • Deciduous Trees w Twinkle Lights?

Quick question... does anyone know if a 3d resource for deciduous trees that wrapped in twinkle lights? I would rather just buy some nice ones than to spend time wrapping them myself.

Have you tried duplicating the trunk, adding a push modifier & sticking a cellular in the opacity slot of a vray light material? Playing around with the spread & thresholds of a cellular map gives a pretty good result.

Solid idea. I'll give it a go.

We are also tossing around the idea of using multiscatter on the trunk and branches.

Scatter would work, unless you need to see the lights connected by a wire, then its kinda hard

Nah... no wire needed. This is a competition image so it is more about impression than making sure every detail is in place.

Then even simple static particles/geo_instance would do the trick.

Yes we do similar stuff all the time. Stick a particle cloud in there on vertex mode and use a spherical vray light.

I've used a similar approach in the past to scattering, but rather than using the trunk and branches, I manually made a proxy that touches the outside of the tree, and used that as a base to scatter. This is because most lights only sit on the outside of the tree, rather than going inside.
