  • Animated Ocean Surface - HELP needed asap!

I can create a great looking ocean surface for use in still renders.

I use a basic plane and add VrayDisplamentMod and apply an ocean displacement jpg that I have had and a basic material and boom, looks pretty good.

However, I now need that same kind of look but animated. I've just wasted an hour on google and youtube looking for a quick and easy solution and didn't come up with much.

Can someone help me out with this? PLEASE???

Phoenix FD can also do a decent ocean surface which doesn't suffer from tiling as the solutions based on Tessendorf.

I'm doing fluids at the minute Vlado and one quite tough this was to do a sim in crested wave water - the usual naiad workflow is to do a sim on flat water and then add in a deformer after to add the crests, but it means they aren't there for your boat to smash through at the sim part - can phoenix do anything along the lines of this?

Hmmm.... So, there is no basic solution?

I thought vray could do a basic animated ocean surface.

not with vray. phoenix does come with an animated map you can use that looks great.

for free, houdini ocean tools & some noise maps is the best you're going to get.

Unfortunately we don't have a simple solution in Vray for 3DSMax - we have a procedural-vector-water-map in Vray for Maya but it is not available in Vray for 3DSMax.

Soooo......any reason this can't migrate its way into max in the near future?

There's no particular reason, but Phoenix FD includes a much better ocean texture; the demo version should work fine for that.

                      Best regards,

Is the Phoenix ocean texture also available in the demo of Phoenix for Maya? If so, where do I find it and how should I set it up?

                        Thanks,

No, the Phoenix for Maya demo is too old. You must wait for the Phoenix 2.2 release.

Ok, too bad. The Vray WaterTex will have to do it then. Thanks!
