  • Network Rendering in Vray

I was wondering about network rendering with vray.
    1. does every machine have to have a copy of vray advanced installed to do network rendering.
    2. can the IR Map caculation be done with a render farm? Or just the rendering its self?
    3. can photon caculation be done with a render fram.
    4. How many machines can render with vray, is thier a limit?
    5. from the help file "Rendering an animation sequence in distributed rendering mode is not supported. Use distributed rendering only for single frames." Does this mean you cant render animations useing vray?

Yes, installed, but you don't need to authorize it.

The normal procedure is to render the IRmap on one computer and then sending this to the renderfarm. This may change some time in the future though.
    3. can photon caculation be done with a render fram.
    Same as above.
    4. How many machines can render with vray, is thier a limit?
There is no limit for normal netrendering. For distributed rendering one VRay Advanced licence lets you render on 10 computers.

You can render them with normal netrendering (backburner). DR is mainly intended for large single frames, and would be slower than backburner for animations because of the extra network traffic needed for each frame. That's why animation support in DR isn't implemented.

i was using the max6 command line rendering today and :
        1) i did not have max6 installed on the machine
        2) i did not have vray installed on the machine

i was using the max install from a network drive and had the paths all set up for that drive.

no problems at all. it was much easier than i thought.
