  • CUDA or CPU?

    Hello,

We're looking into expanding our renderfarm for Architectural rendering and trying to decide if we should focus on basic machines with a powerful video card for CUDA rendering? Or invest in powerful CPU machines like Zeon Six Core servers.

One problem I foresee with CUDA is the current limitations. I've seen issues with textures not rendering, lights not ignoring objects, etc. Is it worth the GPU investment or stick with the CPU machines?

We're currently using Vray 2.4 on Max 2014.

    Thanks,

    Teriander

It really depends on what you do. For many scenes, the limitations of the GPU code are acceptable. For many other scenes, they are not. If you construct your scenes with GPU rendering in mind, you can get some nice results relatively fast.
