  • Is there a way to make V-Ray spawner invisible?

Since we last upgraded our workstations in our studio, we have been utilizing distributed rendering more often, using each other's machines. The machines have been handling it much better than backburner, with limited effect to our working tasks.

The only thing that is annoying, is that it appears to have a session of max running as a v-ray dummy. Is there a way for this not to appear, and have the only indication of the spawner located at the notification portion of the windows task bar?

It is possible to register Vray-spawner as a windows service - in that case all the tasks will be performed in a background without any annoying pop-ups.
Just click on the Register Vray Spawner as a service from Start menu:

If you decide to use that option you should also know the following two things:

    1. Vray spawner will start automatically when windows start up.
    2. If you are using mapped drives you should set up Log On account for Vray-spawner service otherwise the textures or any other external assets won't be accessible, here is how to set it up:

Open “Services” (from Control panel > Administrative Tools > Services) and find “VRaySpawner 20XX” service, then with the right mouse click expand the drop-down menu and choose Properties. Go to “Log On” tab and instead the default log on “Log on as local system account” choose “This account” and put there the account that has administration privileges on the machine and access to the shared resources over the network.
