  • VrayHairmtl and GI

Is it correct that I'm getting nothing in the GI render element when using the VrayHairMtl on a VrayFur object?

As a side question - does the VrayHairMtl work okay within the VrayBlendMtl?
I was trying to incorporate some different strands of hair within the object using two VrayHairMtl's with a VrayBlendMtl with a map in the blend amount but I'm not getting the results I predicted and also it results in me now getting info in the GI element which doesn't seem right.

Sorry, I was wrong about there being nothing in the GI render element. I was testing with a very dark VrayHairMtl so there was very little light in the GI which makes sense. Still trying to get familiar with the HairMtl really.

My question still stands I suppose with it working properly within a VrayBlendMtl but I might be misinterpreting the results as I expect to see them.

Which build are you using? In older builds, VRayHairMtl doesn't work properly inside a VRayBlendMtl since it does some custom processing. This is fixed for V-Ray 3.0, but for older builds, it might be better to find a way to modulate the textures linked to VRayHairMtl instead of trying to blend hair materials.

      Best regards,

I'm using 2.40.03. As you say, could approach it through the textures I in the VrayHairMtl itself or I was even considering generating a 2nd VrayFur object with the alternative material and a mask in the density slot to make it appear in certain areas. Might be a bit messy though with clashing geometry (would alter the fur settings a bit so they weren't identical).
