  • Scene Lighting Capture

    Hi

    I want to capture the lighting in a scene so that it can be used in other scenes without having to use lights etc...sort of like a HDRi.

    To do this there are two options that I am looking at;

    1. Create a Dome Camera and render the scene adjusting the lighting to go from darker to lighter to simulate the EV stops OR
    2. Use a VRay Physical Camera with the Camera Rollout set to Warped Spherical and a FOV override of 360 - adjusting the f-number to simulate the EV stops.

    I haven't tried this yet but wanted to see if anyone has either done this or has any other suggestions ?

    Thanks

    Save as an HDR or EXR, no need for stopping.

      Also, Make sure you're not clamping via "Clamp Output" in Vray Color-mapping tab. Save from the V-Ray Frame buffer (default file extension is vrimg, but you can change it to .exr with no problems).

        You could also use the Panorama Exporter tool to create a 32-bit EXR file. This should contain all your lighting information in one conventient image.

        Also, like Moondoggie said, make sure Clamp Output is unchecked, as this will clip every pixel above 1 EV.
