  • maya to max

im sure this has been discussed to death somehwhere ont he forum, but im finding it hard to find what i need with the forum search.

in the past ive moved 3dsmax vray scenes to maya with partial success. iirc, i used fbx for the geometry and vrscene for the materials... there was some kind of utility or script that reassigned the materials in maya, but that was never done at my end.

now i have the reverse problem.. maya vray scene that i wanna get into max as well as possible.

    any nice bulletproof workflows?!

There is that button... Send scene to > Max in maya. Then u have to redo materials

Yes you do U can export them as vismats and import to max, or u can I think export them in vrscene and import that I cant remember there was some complicated workflow to do it :s

It is not very complicated - you could export vrscene from 3DSMax via Vray RT with a single click, then in Maya create VrayVRmatMtl and select previously exported vrscene.
It will display a list of all materials-names, and it will render the one you've selected.
VrayVRmatMtl is only available in Vray 3.0 - earlier version do not support it.

You could use the the same approach as Svetlozar suggested, but in reversed direction. Export a Vrscene file in Maya and use the V-Ray Vrmat material to load all shaders in Max.
