    i want the distance tex to "remember" where objects have been and progressively build up a map. .. think skidmarks behind a car or footsteps left by a walking character. could be very powerful. alternatively, any suggested hacks? last time i did this kinda thing, i intersected the wheel geometry through the floor and rendered an image sequence looking from below to get a source i could fiddle with in ae. worked ok ish. that was 12 years ago.. things must have moved on since then!

    This has been requested before, but it's a bit difficult to implement... maybe best to bake the map to textures and blend them.
