    Hello,
What workflow do you advice for a water simulation?
It's about a lake with 3 different level, creating a 1M waterfall between each level 25m wide, and finally finishing its flow into the Sea! It's for a short 2min clip.
I'm wondering if I can deal with it or if I have to look for someone to deal with it.
    Thanks.

Do you have an example picture of the look you want to go for? If its some "rough" waterfall where you mostly see the spray and white water you can cheat alot with a simple particle sim.
On the other hand do you have access to a fluid simulation package?
    Cheers,
    Oliver

I do not own any fluid package out of Max.
I looked at Realflow, but the price, for a single project, doesn't make sense, and to master such plug, It will take a lot of trial, error and mistake.

i've done this in the past by filming it. we set up a black card against a wall outside and poured water from one bucket to another. we did this for about 20 buckets, then in fusion cut them up into thin stands, made them loop & re-arranged them into wider waterfalls. use it in opacity, reflection & bump.

film it from top down to get some water ripples/splash and add a max displace modifier to the water with that animated map in.

Waouuu! that sounds like Hollywood world! but that's a good idea. Is there any video library like CGtextures.com?

stock footage sites, but it's slim pickings for shots without camera movement.

It's worth filming yourself if you've got access to a 5d & tripod - we now have a pretty extensive library of varying sizes of fires, candles, fireworks, waterfalls & taps etc.

Have you considered Phoenix FD as an option?

                  Thanks,
What's the limitation of the trial?
How many CG people out there are using such solution?
                  Thanks

Unfortunately we don't have an official Phoenix version that works with Vray 3.0 so far.
Our developers are working on that regard, hopefully we'll have an official build soon.
However you could still contact our guys at Sales Department at sales.software@chaosgroup.com explaining them you want to try Phoenix FD for Vray 3.x and they can work something out.
Another solution would be to use Vray 2.x version if you have license for earlier version or you could also use Vray 2.x Demo version for that purpose.
In any case you will be able to test Phoenix FD and decide whether it will fit in your workflow.
