very noob : area shadows on Vray materials

I don't get this
Can I set a direct light to cast area shadows on VRAY materials ?
If not , what should I do to obtain the same effect ?

(trying to mimic sunlight falling down on vray materialled objects)

just try a spot light or vray light with vrayShadows set to area.......that should get you what you need.

direct lights won't cast area shadows because the rays of light cast are all parralel to each other......you you gonna have just strainght shadows.
