Could someone suggest hardware for 3dsmax and vray?

For architectural works (often scenes with high number of polygons)

I mean motherboard, cpu (1 or 2) ram, hdd, video card

I'd prefer not to much expensive like dual processor (not newer cpu)!!!

Id like to know some opinions of the users in this forum
If u have good machine wich work well with this two software show me wich it is

    BYe and thanks in advance

    Hi,

A Dual with good amount of RAM is what I want for my main system, many times I work simultaneously on max, photoediting software, CAD package and browsing the net, a dual will definately multitask much better provided it has enough RAM.

My system is now a Dual Xeon 2,8 Ghz on ASUS PC DL mobo, 2 Gig of RAM , Nvidia FX5600 video using Open GL driver, Win XP pro.
I am very happy with it.
My former system was a a Dual AMD MP 2000+ on a Tyan Tiger MPX mobo, 2 Gig of RAM Nvidia GF4 Ti 4400 using Open GL Win 2K pro.

I was also very happy with it and now it does still a good work as render slave in my render farm, the main difference I notice between both ( and I must confess it surprised me) was the enourmous performance gain of the Xeon system while working on the viewports, it must be because of the wider bandwidth orf the P4/Xeon systems over the AMDs MP/XP, this makes me wonder how the new 64 bit AMD Opterons will behave, specially together with the 64bits Windows OSs.... but you mentioned not going for the most new CPUs... Rendering things balance, and though the Xeon behave very good, the same do the older MPs, Vray takes great advantadge of the HyperThreading when calculatin Irradiance maps, but as already said the MPs still behave good.

If you are on a tight budged, perhaps a Dual AMD MP is a good thing now, they are cheap, a gaming video card will give fair performance in the viewports with Open GL drivers, and learning to hide unneeded geometry will help ehn scene goes heavy.

As for the high poly count, besides working wise and hiding unneeded geometry, Win XP Pro with the /3GB switch (has been discussed before) will help (if it works) rendering big scenes while the new version of VRay is released.

    Cheers

all add to whats been said that yes the dual AMD is best if you want to lower the price. id also say that the gf4 ti4200 - ti 4600 are good cards for the price.

newegg.com is probably the best place for all in all shopping if you want to build your own system from scratch. Unless you are in CA or NY where they charge tax on purchase, you should get very good prices there. And the customer service is the best in business.

And, no, I dont work for newegg - am just a very happy customer of theirs

            I agree.

I have the Geforce4 ti 4200 that I have overclocked to the 4600's memory and core speed!!!

Then I have soft-modded (using SOFTQUADRO4 script comming with RivaTuner : http://forums.guru3d.com//forumdisplay.php?forumid=18) my ti 4200 into a QUADRO 700XGL so that I can now use the MAXTREM NVIDIA driver for 3DSMAX.

The perfomance gain is realy huge in all OpenGL apps.

I just built a new workstation a couple of weeks ago. All the parts were from Newegg. It was a dual AMD 2800+ MP with 2GB ram and two 120 GB hard drives in a mirrored RAID. It clocked in at about $1,632(US). Love it.

I almost went with AMD 64bit procs but was a little nervous since I would have to use the beta version of 64bit Windows.

Originally I wanted to just buy a complete system from Dell or Boxxtech but the prices were just a bit to high for me at the time ~$3,000. So I priced all the parts at Newegg.com and had all the bits on my desk about 3 days later. It took about 4 hours to build. This is only the second computer I've built myself and it went together quite easily. The nice thing about building your own computer is that you have control over every component. I used to like Dell but they add so much useless crap in their systems that I'm favoring built-it-yourself systems these days. If time and money was not an issue then I'd probably go with Boxxtech.

              Shipping adds about $30.

                  hey pengo,

not to burst your bubble or anything but if your in Europe good luck in ordering from newegg. Im in Canada and they wouldn't sell to me

As for Boxx Tech having higher prices on some levels it may be worth it due to their legendary support and service. But you may be better off with a highly rated local supplier. Ask around or make some calls to see who mite know of a good place near you to buy a good box with good service and support.

Hmm. I guess we haven't reached the global market place yet. Newegg doesn't ship to Canada? That blows. I'm pretty sure ZipZoomFly.com does. Their prices aren't too bad either. I don't know of any online etailers who take international orders. There must be a bunch out there.

just a little addition to the grafics board you chose - the fx5700 cannot be softmodded into a quadro card, so i'd suggest taking a 5800/5900 or the cheaper possibility would be a ti4800

what do u think about this?

this a configuration proposed by a friend 1800 Euro

MAinboard: P/M ASUS P4C800 DLX ATX DDR HT
RAM: CORSAIR XMS3200 TWINX 2*512MB PRO
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz HT 800MHz
                            HDD: 2x SEAGATE 120GB BARRACUDA 7200.7 SATA
videocard: GAINWARD FX 5700ULTRA 128MB DDR GS
                            cd/dvd: LG 4082 DVD+/- RW 8X
                            Floppy: FDD 1.44 MB
chassis: CASE CHIEFTEC DX-01B-D-U BLACK USB 500

I'd like to know what do u think of this kind of machine about its speed its cost if someone had some problem with some of this components too

do u think about older components like dual athlon mp cpu or other is better or equal as speed in lower prices?

Bye and excuse the multiple questions on this arguments

pengo, good choice, but instead two hdd, take one with 250gb or a small internal 120gb and an additonal external hdd over firewire..it performs like an internal hdd.

1800euro seems to be very highpriced for your configuration. BTW.
