I've e-mailed Vlado about the plugin, now that the workflow is sorted I feel much more confident in producing something that I can render outside of ZB.

I'm itching to create a rigged character to see how well it works with a character that has a lot of the modeling defined by displacement.

    Cheers

Nice, but what is that black thing over his eye? Could be a shadow, but it looks kinda strange....hope its not a displacement artifact

Based on several other hard edged shadows and their direction, I would say it's also a shadow. Still, good eye catching that. I didn't see it and your right, it does look a little strange.

would it possible to make this script available for demo users too?

i would love to test the zbrush demo together with the vray demo but when i read about all the trouble on the zbrush forum then i fear i have not enough time to check this out.

Zbrush forum thread was updated to include another test model and displacement map by Pixolator if anyone is interested. Trying to get a good render right now, but so far things aren't coming out too well (oops, and I crashed Max while typing this, lol).

That particular scene (the sword) is going to have problems because of the sharp edges. At this point VRay does not support render time subdivision displacement (both smoothing and displacing a surface) which is needed to accurately repeat what zbrush does; usually this is not much of a problem if you subdivide the mesh once or twice, because the ordinary smooth normals will end up quite close to the normals of the limit subdivision surface. In the sword scene however, this approximation is not sufficient around the edges.

                Best regards,
                Vlado
