    can anyone please explain me what these parameters are for?

    from the manual

    Max depth - the number of times a ray can be reflected. Scenes with lots of reflective and refractive surfaces may require higher values to look right.

      Max depth and max tree depth are two different things. Max tree depth is a raycaster setting. Basically the higher the setting the faster the render but at the cost of higher memory usage.

          so this setting has nothing to do with render quality? bu only an optimisation of render time and memory usage?

            Yes, as I understand it it is just an optimization of render time and memory usage.
