To be fair, that problem isn't isolated to 3rd party plugins, just look at Softimage. With open source it is fairly likely that popular software will be maintained to some extent even after active development has ended, so you can make the transition at your leisure. With closed source solutions, you might just be screwed. Tools evolve fairly fast, so whatever you are using today, you probably wont be using 10 years in future. Thus, it's better not to get too attached to any tool.

Bercon maps for max 2015

I agree that this issue isn't unique to 3rd party plugins. But it doesn't take away the sting of the fact that as new tools take over, useful features and techniques disappear for good. Although these days, I've found the speed of 3d tool evolution to have slowed down considerably, so this may be less of an issue. I wouldn't be surprised if the tools we use 10 years from now ARE almost the same as what we use today.
Anyways, that's why I limit my use of 3rd party plugins, I've been bitten too many times in the past. Best way to not get attached to any tool is to never have used it

I've been using multitexture inside a bercon tile. It's causing the max interface to freeze such that I have to go to the max icon in the windows taskbar and then select either the max window or vray frame buffer window to bring back functionality....then repeat infinitum!! I'm not sure if it's a compatibility issue, since I've just got the latest Max update and Vray update. It also crashes one of our machines. Bercon Maps/ Multitexture are so usefulotherwise.

Question does anyone else run into the problem with bercon maps that within the noise texture if you try to activate the mapping variation and tick the checkbox for Material ID the next time you go into the exact same noise map the Material ID checkbox is unticked. (Tried Bercon Maps 3.03 and 3.04) At least I think I tried both version because no matter which one I have inside my plugin folder inside the noise map it shows me 3.01.

Normally I'd do the same thing but since the objects are created via railclone I'd like to avoid doing that. But since variation per MatID isn't working thats probably what I'll have to do. Which is a shame.
