  • Vray ies overide shadow shape only

I'm working on an internal scene and using Vray IES lights. The lights are casting very hard shadows on certain objects. For aesthetic purposes I was hoping to keep the light shape that is cast on the nearby wall but soften the shadows so that they were not so harsh. Is there any work around for this or can this feature be added ? It would be great to have that extra control.

    That feature exists

'override shape', set to circle and adjust the size - a larger size creates a softer shadow

I've tried that already but it doesn't keep the original IES shape that casts onto the nearby wall...as in, the light shape that the IES file creates. It just becomes the basic shape you select.

okay...that's interesting. I'll have to do some testing. I originally tried override shape and selected a cylinder and it seemed to completely get rid of the original IES shape already loaded.

Thanks for testing by the way.

My tests were only with 'circle' - had to play with the diameter to achieve the right shadow blur - this made the lighting very noisy. Had to crank the subdivs
