  • Fast disk read of multi channel exrs

    Hey,

Sorry, I'm totally spamming this forum this week, been awhile since I've used Vray.

I read somewhere that exr 2.0 would speed up the read times of multichannel exrs. I'm using Nuke, and my multi-channel exrs rendered out of Vray are way slower to read than non multi-channel.

Is there any settings I need to check to improve the read time?

    Ta!

    Nick,
Check out the VrayOptionRE render element.

Changing the compression type might help.
I am not a nuke user so I can't tell you which compression is best for EXR's

      Ta.

It's currently set to zip, individual scanlines.

Here's the quote from the exr docs:
Multi-part Image Files - With OpenEXR 2.0, files can now contain a number of separate, but related, data parts in one file. Access to any part is independent of the others, pixels from parts that are not required in the current operation don't need to be accessed, resulting in quicker read times when accessing only a subset of channels. The multipart interface also incorporates support for Stereo images where views are stored in separate parts. This makes stereo OpenEXR 2.0 files significantly faster to work with than the previous multiview support in OpenEXR.

In the latest nightly builds, vrimg2exr has an option to create multipart files. We have not added this to V-Ray itself yet.
