  • importing alembic caches through vray proxies while keeping quads

Is there a way to import an alembic cache through a vray proxy without having it triangulated in the process?

You mean when you import the proxy as a mesh in 3ds Max (with the "import" button)?

    Best regards,

Not really... what I'd like is to import an alembic file through a vrayproxy object and then further edit it if I need to. I'm getting alembic caches from maya and sometimes I have to do simple operations to the mesh like adding shell ,turbosmooth and so on... but if i put an editable poly on top of my vrayproxy it uses the triangulated mesh... dunno if that makes sense? At the moment i'm using an alembic plugin to load the cache then do all the changes needed on top of that, that's the only way i could find to keep it workable with quads.

The proxy is designed to load Alembic caches for the purpose of rendering specifically; if you want to do anything else, like edit the mesh, it would be best to use other Alembic importers.
