  • Anyone using a hyperthreaded machine? I think HT is bad.

    Hi guys,

This is really going to be an issue if its due to HT since
HT is now coming to be the norm.

I have conclusively tested on my HT and non HT machines
that the HT (even with HT disabled in bios) is causing more
cases of splotches than the non HT machine, which renders perfectly
fine (ie, no warning messages from vray)

I am now wondering if it could be due to other factors on my HT machine.
Hence, does anyone have a HT machine? Wanna send you a file
to do a test render. don't tweak anything, just hit render and tell
us if you got errors or not.

    thanks.

I am currently running a double xeon HT workstation (with XP) and experienced problems of stability in overnight renderings (especially animations), the system hangs at certain points. Without HT the scenes render fine. As my company is currently waiting for a bunch of 22 PC's from Dell (3.4 Ghz HT proc each) and we will use them also as a renderfarm I will be able to give more precise comments.

now i feel like the boy who cried wolf!!

tried opening up my file, got to the scene and... u guessed it.
              spoltches ain't there no more!

but i swear it was there! and only when rendered with the HT machine.

              ugh.

ok...hopefully this problematic file will show more spoltches
around... will email u all once i rears its ugly head.

              *sheepish grin* :P

heh glad to hear its working again. Once in a blue moon if you reboot it can resolve problems that way.

Also Running a Dual Xeon 2.8 and a P4 3ghz both with HT enabled over the past few monts on max 4,5, and 6 running V-Ray and no issues with V-Ray yet.
