  • Golf Course Grass

Hello all its been so long since I have visited the forums and have run into quit the snag.... I am currently trying to create a rendering of an aerial of a golf facility my firm is working on. I have the trees and landscape and have tried using displacement for grass however i am having a hard time creating the grassmaterial to show the shorter grass on the fairway and green inorder to get the stripe pattern similar to that on a baseball diamond. Does anyone know of any tutorials or have any ideas on how to create this? Any help would be great!

    Cheers

If it's an aerial, I wouldn't even bother with displacement. Just a good, tileable map. These are a couple of samples from a golf course I did a few years back. I rendered out the entire scene with no maps from above (axon view), then created masks in photoshop for the different types of grass. From there you can use a composite material to put the different layers back onto the surface.

how do you prevent pixelated edges with the masks? our site is roughly 2km by 2km ... sorry this is my first stab at large landscapes in maxc/vray im used to buildings and hard surface areas lol

        cheers

Can you show some examples and send sample scene about that issue?

I haven't tried using masks. I ended up doing shape merge on to the surface for the fairways and greens then applied material ID's to each component. I just member that when I have tried doing large site plans using texture mapping I never got clean edges I would have a massive texture map and there would still be some pixilation unless iwas doing it completely wrong....
