  • Active shade renders extremely slow

I'm just now being introduced to active shade, which I had hoped would be great for real time manipulation of materials and other adjustments. But my renders are taking 8-10 minutes??
Trying to get a grip on what determines render time in active shade and how to speed it up.
Using Max Design 2015, Vray 3.0, interior render imported from Revit
    Thank You

    Hi,

Would you please share more details about the issue you have with our RT plugin ?
Do you mean speeding up the calculations in order to get more clean result in less time? What engine do you use CPU or GPU?
Do you compare the render speed with the production renderer ?
Try to lower slightly the GI depth value.

      In this chaosgroup tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmCR...JxktIOGXWFJhRw
Vassile demonstrates how you can change material properties and get real time updates in the RT renders.
I was under the impression my RT renders would take less than a minute. So, unless I missed something, I really can't use the active shade
      like in this tutorial.
I was using CPU but am trying CUDA now. Lowered the GI depth from 3 to 2. So far it's been about 15 minutes and the render hasn't even started.

The render speed strongly depends on the scene (interior/exterior, textures quality/number, shaders, polycount) and the machine CPU or GPU depending on the RT engine used.
Is it possible to share some render examples or scene ? Also what is your workstation specification ?

Do you get any errors or warning in the RT console window?
What graphic card you have installed on this machine?

Running a Boxx 4920 extreme work station. NVIDIA quadro 2000 GC, 64 bit op system, 16 GB ram.
          windows 7 64 bit.
Hard drive is getting a little bogged. 393 gb used space. 71.9 free
Only warning I get is "bitmap pager is enabled"
What would be the preferred method to share the scene?
I hope I can find something very wrong with the scene that will explain my
extremely long render times. I'm doing a production render now with VRay recommended settings and the render is going on 20 minutes and far from done.
          Thank You

In this case it will be better to contact us via our support mail (support@chaosgroup.com) and send a download link to the scene file. We can also give you access to our FTP server to upload the files there if needed.

Please provide us with as much details as you can. For an example what is the render camera and render time that you get on a specific frame.
If i understand you right, the render time issue is for Production advanced V-Ray renderer, not the Active shade RT?

The first time I tried to use CUDA it hung on me too, I had to go into the start menu->programs->Chaos Group->Vray RT-> select CL devices. Once I did that it worked. Also, one other time windows firewall was blocking the cmd window for it.
