Ah, but think of all the time you're now going to waste while your emails open up 1.4x slower!

That is quite funny. Maybe they'r running off 5 year old information, it hasnt always been worth turning on.

      • I had my scene texture mapped so I hit render and ran to the restroom. Typically, on my old workstation, it would have taken a few hours, or so. I expected to stop it while it was calculating the light cache. But, to my amazement, 4k was completely done in 17 minutes. I had displacement and grass, but no trees or landscaping. Tomorrow, I'll deck the scene out with trees and landscaping; can't wait to see how it runs totally complete.

        • So you took your usual 2 hour poop, only to find you'll now have to cut it down to 17 minutes! This may take some training.

What was your previous workstation? If it would have taken a few hours before that's an improvement of at least about 8x (assuming your previous renders took at least 2 hours).

                      • Okay, smart asses! I usually wait until the light cache has time to process a little bit. After a few minutes, I'll cancel the render and tweak. When I ran to the restroom, I expected to see the light cache when I returned (couple minutes), but what I saw was a final render. It was a final render that would have taken hours on my ole i7 machines.

Would you consider running this test and tell us what you get?
