  • GI and Atmospherics

Just rendered a scene with fog, and I noticed that the fog adds light to the GI solution.

No something I wanted to happen.

    Just wondering:
Do all Atmospherics contribute to the GI solution?
    Is this accurate?
    Is this desirable?
    Can it be turned off?
If not, would it be possible to add an on/off check box for 'Atmospherics Generate GI' in a future release?

Anyone else had interesting experinces with Vray and atmospherics?

as far as I know, all true atmospherics add light when GI is calculated. I like the feature, but yes would be nice to be able to turn them off.

even fog? I always figured fog would reduce the amount of light coming through it.

I haven't used afterburn or aura but I wonder if their smoke adds light, cos that definitely doesn't seem right.

And not to diminish vray, I think its great that atmospherics have been incorporated into the GI solution. I just wish there was more control over their GI contribution. Seem to remeber another post where someone asked for a GI multiplier to increase the atmospheric GI effect.

      Ta for the response percy.

I think this is due to the way atmospherics are implemented in max. I seem to remember a wishlist a while back with custom vray fog and volume light as a point. This would be good to get atmospherics in vray that dont add light, and that work with area lights and vray shadows
