You cannot texture an individual strand (i.e. you can't put like a leaf texture on it, or a grass blade). The fur is mostly designed for thin strands where you don't really see the variation across the thickness of the strand.
If you need it for grass, there may be other ways to do it.
ok thanks. i would love to use it as vray fur seems to be incredibly fast with deforming meshes, compared to pflow. but i would need texture support though. does someone know an alternative?
What about if you use some of the scattering plugins like Forest pack, multiscatter..
Other option could be to use the native 3DS Max scatter plugin and export the result to animated proxy file.
